Boy dies after being attacked by stray dogs in Delhi
Police said that Mahmoon Ansari, 7, son of Sabir Ansari, a resident of Noor Nagar locality of Jamia Nagar area was attacked by dogs while playing with other kids and succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.
A seven-year-old boy who was attacked by a pack of stray dogs in Jamia Nagar area in South Delhi died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital on Tuesday.
Police said that Mahmoon Ansari, 7, son of Sabir Ansari, a resident of Noor Nagar locality of Jamia Nagar area was attacked by dogs while playing with other kids and succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.
"The boy was playing alongwith 2-3 other children on the sand dunes of Yamuna river bank at around 11.30 am today when he accidentally came before pack of stray dogs that were lying there. The dogs attacked him and bit him fatally on neck and head," said a senior police officer.
The boy was rushed to a private hospital in New Friends Colony where he succumbed to his grievous injuries during treatment, at around 1 pm, said the officer.
After the death of the boy, his family members created ruckus at the private hospital alleging "delay" in providing treatment to him. The hospital authorities, however, denied the allegation.
"We have registered a medico legal case as per the Law. But family of the deceased boy created problem because they wanted the body without postmortem, which is not permissible," said administrative officer of the hospital.
"We will conduct an inquest to determine the cause of death of the boy and take action afterwards," said the police officer. A senior official of South Delhi Municipal Corporation said that although the incident was of rare nature but cognizance has been taken of it to decide further course of action.
"We do receive complaints regarding street dog menace but nothing of this nature. We have taken cognisance of the case and will check with our department concerned to decide any course of action," he said.
The official also said that the Corporation carries out regular sterilisation drives in its areas.
"In last three months, around 3,500 dogs have been sterilised as we try to keep a check on any infection that may arise out of them," he said.
The SDMC takes help of NGOs and hires agencies to carry out street dog control exercise including capturing, sterilising and releasing them back in open.
